Departing from Corfu, we begin our journey south along the coast of mainland Greece, passing charming villages, tranquil bays, and historic islands before arriving at the picturesque Syvota and Parga.
Igoumenitsa and Plataria
As we head south, enjoy views of Igoumenitsa, the bustling capital of the Thesprotia region, followed by the charming fishing village of Plataria. These coastal gems provide a glimpse into the local life along the mainland, framed by lush green landscapes and rolling hills.
Syvota Islands and Historical Caves
Continuing south, we arrive at the Syvota Islands, an idyllic group of islets surrounded by sapphire-blue waters. Here, we sail into the impressive cave of Syvota, which served as a hidden refuge for the Greek submarine Papanikolis during World War II. These islands also bear the history of the famous naval battle between the Corfiots and Corinthians in 432 B.C., with sunken vessels still resting beneath the waves.
Blue Lagoon Bay
Next, we anchor at the famous Blue Lagoon, known for its turquoise waters and lush surroundings. According to legend, this bay served as a harbour for Arabian pirates in the Middle Ages. Swim and snorkel in the crystal-clear lagoon, surrounded by an otherworldly beauty that makes this spot a favourite among travellers.
Parga
Sailing further south, we arrive at the vibrant coastal town of Parga, a place rich in history and beauty. Known for its colourful architecture, olive groves, and calm bays, Parga is both a historical treasure and a picturesque paradise. Explore the
Venetian castle perched on the hillside, originally built in the 11th century to protect the town from pirates and later reconstructed by the Venetians. Take in sweeping views of the Ionian Sea and the small island dedicated to the Virgin Mary, home to a charming church and mediaeval Venetian and French buildings.
